I talked to Kaya at John Hiatt's management last night, and here's the latest information. He's using 2/3 of the Guilty Dogs, changing guitarists to David Immergluck. The new album is going to be more introspective and not as rock-oriented as Perfectly Good Guitar, and the new album does not come out until...September 12. We could all be dead by then.

Billboard Magazine reports that Hiatt has signed with Capitol Records. The new record, which currently is being mixed, won't be out until the summer since they want time to launch him properly.

Hiatt has left A&M records according to the current issue of Billboard!! With his new album (produced by Don Smith) almost completed, he is negotiating with several labels for a new deal. Results of these negotiations are expected to be announced next month.

15 tracks. No pre-BTF material, although we are treated to JH's version of Angel Eyes, which Jeff Healey rode to modest popularity. Over 76 minutes in all, which while not a double CD ain't too bad.
[As noted below, early rumours had the live album as a double disc. -ed]

According to the November issue of ICE: It's a single disc, not double as previously reported. (Yeah, I know I was the one who said it was double - I don't write this stuff, I just pass it along to y'all). However, it's packed - about 75 minutes of music, all w/The Guilty Dogs in 1994.

Thursday night a celebrity race was held here in Nashville to raise money to help find a cure for diabetes. In a pouring rain, on a very wet track, JH started 10th of 10 in his 8-lap qualifying heat, but worked his way up to 3rd to make the final. In the final, he was advancing, but his hard-charging ways caused him to spin on the final lap, costing him another Top 5 finish.

For all those interested, I called the 1-800 number yesterday for some info about the live CD. Unfortunatley, they ran out of them two days prior to my call! Damn! Anyway, I urge (no, beg) everyone to call that number, multiple times... Why? Because the guy I spoke to said they had a lot of requests (he asked how many I'd buy if they were available again) and said they were going to call A&M and ask them to release more CDs ``due to popular demand.''

I have some more information on the ``Live at the Hiatt'' CD that Craig Frischkorn previously reported on. [...] It's completely legit. No $$ going to bootleggers, etc. The flyer says: ``We have put together a CD of 10 great John Hiatt classics including Perfectly Good Guitar, Child of the Wild Blue Yonder, and Slow Turning recorded live during the PGG tour.'' It's billed as a limited edition live recording.
So here's ordering info:
$10.99 plus $3.99 S&H (NJ residents add 6 percent sales tax) Send to Live at the Hiatt c/o Music Marketing Network 2-40 Bridge Avenue Red Bank, NJ 07701
or call 1-800-890-0800 24 hours a day.
