Max for Mayor
On Thursday, March 20, well-wishers, music-enthusiasts, and party aficionados gathered at La Zona Rosa to wish Max a rollicking happy birthday.
Max has said he finds his birthdays a reinvigorating time. They are a great way to usher in the springtime and political seasons.
In this photo, Campaign Director Linda Curtis welcomes Max
to the party.
Everybody birthday party needs a cake -- but if you want to have
a big party, you have to get a really big cake! Here,
James Ebert presents Max his cake. The cake says, "Happy
Birthday Max," and sports a fine frosting mustache.
Max invited everybody to share a piece of cake. That's good,
because I could never vote for a guy who hogs the whole birthday
cake for himself.
Austin artist Robert Hurst painted a wonderful portrait of
Max. He donated it to Max, and we auctioned it off to raise funds
for the campaign.
Before we let the painting out of our hands, we made some prints from it and had them turned into very special "Max for Mayor" posters. The posters are full four-color and printed on heavy stock. If you'd like one, visit our office. We'll trade you for a small donation.
Thank you, Robert. The painting was a very generous and special
gift.
My goodness, we haven't even begun to talk about the talent that paraded across the stage that evening. It was a non-stop festival of music and poetry.
Here, Max stands with the new Studebakers. They perform some
wonderful arrangements of standard and old timey songs.
Standing to the far left is Nigel Russell, the Maestro of Musicians for Max. Nigel coordinated the entertainment for the evening, and did a great job setting up the stage and sound. The evening went smoothly and we had a blast. Thank you, Nigel.
The evening was a blur of poets and performers. I wish I could give you a complete list of everybody who was there, because they all did a fine job and the campaign staff is grateful for their efforts. Here are a few of the names we would like to thank.
Our apologies in advance for those left off. Please mail us any additions so we can set the record straight.
We also thank La Zona Rosa for graciously hosting the event.
