[Newsadmin: This user has posted an MMF (attached below). I am going to issue an advisory abuse cancelation for it. Please take whatever actions are necessary to ensure this user ceases their abuse of Usenet. Thanks. -chip] You may have committed a US Federal crime. The chain letter you posted violates title 18, section 1302 of the United States Code. These crimes are actively investigated and prosecuted by the United States Postal Inspection Service. If you are prosecuted and found guilty, you will be subject to fines up to $1,000 and up to *two years* of jail. Even if you aren't up on all the intricacies of 18 USC 1302, you have demonstrated inexcusably poor common sense and judgement. It is completely unreasonable to think you can sit back on your butt, flood the Internet with this trash, and make any money off the deal. After all, did *you* send in your five bucks to the name at the top of the list? What makes you think anybody else will? Maybe you just thought, "So what harm can it do?" Look, this stuff isn't free. Every posting costs money -- and the *recipient* pays for it. Sure, it's only a fraction of a penny each post, but we are getting awful tired of paying over and over again for these "Make Money Fast" chain letters. So let's summarize: - You are abusing the net. - You may have committed a Federal crime. - What you have done is incredibly stupid. I am going to issue an advisory "network abuse" cancelation. This will request all news servers to delete your chain letter. You have committed one of the most egregious, most basic violations of Usenet etiquette. You clearly do not have a grasp of how to use this medium appropriately. Please do not post to Usenet again until you learn how to do so properly. (If you have posted multiple copies of this message, all of them will be deleted. This will be your only notice.) (If you are not an American, please note that many countries have their own laws against these chain letter scams. Even if you are outside the United States, you may be subject to arrest and prosecution by your local authorities.)
